The Osa
The Osa Peninsula is one of those places that’s very easy to fall in love with. The local Costa Ricans are exceptionally kind and the environment is as fascinating as the air is humid.
With a population of approximately 2000, Puerto Jimenez is the peninsula’s biggest town. There are many places to stay and eat for very reasonable prices. Puerto Jimenez has also become home for many North Americans and Europeans. The Osa Peninsula offers a lifestyle that’s less hectic than what’s found in the states.
If you’re into surfing, there are some beautiful waves on the Osa. Many surfers stay in a place called Matapalo. There are many beautiful places to stay and the surrounding forest is full of wildlife and beautiful walks.
Being from Idaho, I’m into the forest. The degree of ecological diversity that one finds on the Osa is absolutely mind-boggling. We were there last in Aug. 05. Walking down the road in Carate we caught a glimpse of a Jaguarundi as well as Jaguar tracks and multiple of reptiles. During the filming of this dvd I made four trips into Corcovado National Park. As I look back at the time I’ve spent on the Osa, the memories most vivid to me are walking with my friend Mike in the park and just constantly being blown away by what was around the next bend. If you get a chance to go into the park, don’t let it slip by. The accommodations in the park however leave a little something to be desired so I’ve developed a list that’s helped me be more comfortable in the park. |
